Overview
Circumnavigate Whidbey is an adventure with the primary goal to raise money for the Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools. We encourage participants in this journey to target raising money for the Foundation - it is a great non-profit and they put a lot of time and effort to planning this adventure and all the logistics support for the weekend to the athletes can just "go."
For 2019 the format will consist of approximately 2 Half Ironman Triathlons in 2 days as we make our way around the perimeter of beautiful Whidbey Island, which is roughly 160 miles.
On Saturday of Labor Day weekend, all participants will gather at the Coupeville Stadium (Mickey Clark Field) and we will set off, together, on the route heading for all of South Whidbey and back to Coupeville. Each day will consist of 13 miles running (split into a couple runs), approximately a mile swim (Day 1 will be in Goss Lake), and the remainder biking.
Sunday, after a good nights sleep, we again depart from Coupeville Stadium but this time head North with the same format. Run 13 miles (this time through Ft Ebey and Deception Pass), swim across Cranberry Lake, and bike the remaining miles.
The entire time we stick together, no matter what the pace and at least two volunteers support vehicles which transport our equipment and fuel. Along the route, we tend to find groupies - amazing friends and family and community members cheering us on.
We will end on Sunday at the Summer's End Coupeville Community Potluck and celebrate our accomplishment with family and friends at Coupeville Town Park.

Safety
From a safety perspective - a few key tenants
- We will stick together
- We will have support vehicles (2) with cell phones and two way radios. If someone needs a break or gets a niggle or injury, they can jump in the support vehicle for assistance
- We will arrange for a kayak to be in the water on both days during the swim legs. We definitely advise to have a wet suit for both warmth and for floating!
Route
Details
Estimated times and lengths of the segments will be detailed and inserted here
Day 1 is the bigger day, estimated to take between 10 - 11 hours, Day 2 between 7 - 8 hours.
We all stick together, its for fun and charity! Running pace for approximately 6 miles is estimated to average between 9-10 min/miles. Biking will vary but be between 12 - 14 miles per hour on average, and swimming will be "when we finish!"
If there are any segments that folks want more of a rest - you can jump in the support vehicles
We will meet at least 1 - 2 times before the adventure begins to make sure everyone has all their answers and fully understands the plans for the days
We also routinely train during the summer, and you are welcome to join us as your schedule fits

FAQ
1. How fit do I have to be? See the details for the target paces above. You want to make sure you are fit - as this is a big island! But in my opinion, the paces are fair and the comradery is good and the goal to finish is very achievable!
2. Can I skip a leg if I am tired or uncomfortable? Yes - you can hop in the support vehicle and get some rest and recovery.
3. What if I want to join you all for just a portion? Contact me to let me know what you are thinking. There are several amazing sections that are pretty accessible and able to tag in! Again, this effort is also a fundraiser, so we hope you would still consider helping the cause
If I get other questions, I will update this website
