Meet Daysi Mayer
Tell us about yourself, what brought you to Whidbey?
I’m married to a Sailor, and his last duty station was NASWI. We decided to stay here after seeing how beautiful Whidbey Island is, especially the community!
Why is supporting children that are served by the Student Support Service Programs important to you?
First, it is an honor to work as a Community Health Worker/Promotora de Salud for Island County Public Health. This job is very important to me because I provide a wide range of services, including outreach, home visit, health education, and referral to other programs to mention a few of my duties.
Supporting families is one of my priorities because I help them access health and social services, they didn’t know existed in Island County. Promoting Health in our community is one of my goals, like increasing health screenings, and enhancing communication between community members and health providers. Public Health promotes the health and well-being of all people and promotes Health Equality, I love my community, and I want to see people’s lives improve! I do everything from holding hands when someone is sick to calling many agencies to assist a family or individual with a particular need.
Advocating for the families we serve provides me with a high level of personal and professional satisfaction.

How does support to the Student Support Service Resource Fair help you make a difference in family's lives?
I get to know more families, their needs, and resources that I didn’t know existed. Now I can direct them to new organizations. Also, I want them to know me, and the wonderful programs Island County Public Health offers to the community.
What other message would you like to share with our community?
I’m part of the community. And like any other family member, I’d like to find a person who understands, cares, and has the compassion to help me access the available resources in Island County. The Student Support Service Resource is a great event to connect with.
