Tell us about you,  your family and your connection to Coupeville School District

My partner Terry Welch was middle school science teacher for 23 years and applied for, and received, many grants from the foundation throughout her career. She used those grants to broaden the education of her students and provide more hands-on learning opportunities.

My youngest daughter recently graduated from CHS and benefited from the support of the local community throughout her time in the Coupeville schools.  I personally have been involved with coaching the Science Olympiad team for several years and volunteer as a coach on the track team as well.

Tell me how you came to be involved in Circumnavigate Whidbey

Picture
I joined the circumnavigate team in 2018.  It is a wonderful challenge and a great experience to see the beautiful spots on the island. The event comes at the end of my summer riding and is a great goal to work towards all summer long. It keeps me motivated and fit.

Are there any examples you can give of how the amazing Coupeville School District Teachers and Staff have made a difference for your families life?  Why is raising money to support schools so impactful?

The foundation has provided several grants to the Science Olympiad team over the years.  The students in this program have benefited from the funds and been able to gain valuable experience with hands on projects in all disciplines of science.  This enhances their learning and strengthens their education. Grants from the foundation make this possible.

Is there anything else that you would want our huge contingent of followers to know about?

The support and backing of the community is what separates Coupeville from other districts. Educating children is a priority and partnership between the school district and the local community. Support for entities like the Foundation is invaluable and one of the main reasons that make our schools such a wonderful places for students to learn and grow.  Please consider donating.
