Meet Ana Valencia
Tell us about yourself, what brought you to Coupeville?
Hi I am Ana Valencia. I currently hold the position of Multilingual/English Learner teacher and Migrant Graduation Specialist for the Coupeville School District.
Why is supporting children that are served by the Student Support Service Programs important to you?
As the child of immigrant parents and someone who learned to speak English when I started kindergarten, I feel a kinship with our multilingual learners and immigrant families.
I see myself as a student advocate first and foremost. As the first in my family to go to college, I know there are students like me who struggled to realize their potential, but they do not need to face these challenges on their own. With a little support and someone to point them in the right direction, barriers that may seem daunting can be overcome. With each challenge that is met, students will gain knowledge and confidence that will continue to serve them as they face their futures.

How does support to the Student Support Service Resource Fair help you make a difference in family's lives?
Though I was raised to be self-sufficient and proud, there were times in my life where I found myself needing help. It was then I relied on the generosity of others to overcome challenges. I am so grateful my family and I are part of the Coupeville community as the willingness to support one another is evident. My motivation to support the Community Resource Event is to provide help to those who are in need like I once was. Having all the resources in one place is such a blessing to those who may not realize what support may be available to them here on the Island.
