Tell us about yourself and what brought you to Coupeville?
My husband, Gordon, and I moved here in 2000. He grew up in Sequim, and Coupeville reminded him of Sequim before it grew so much…on the water, in the rain shadow, and his HS mascot was the Wolves! We knew that we wanted to be here. We bought a piece of property some time ago, for “the future”, while living and working in Seattle. Then a job opened up at the high school and I applied and was hired as the CHS counselor. Our move to Coupeville, fortunately for us, happened sooner rather than later.
When and Why did you join the Coupeville Schools Foundation?
Shortly after my retirement in 2011, I got a call, asking if I was interested in serving on the Foundation Board. My answer was a quick “Yes”! I knew that I wanted to continue to serve public education in my community and I believed that the Coupeville teachers and students deserved that extra measure of support that the Foundation strives to provide. This is a great school district!
What is your favorite thing to do in Coupeville?
I also volunteer for the National Park Service at the Jacob Ebey House, during the summer. A favorite activity is being there, greeting visitors from many states and countries, as well as locals who are happy that the house is now open to visitors and hikers along the bluff trail.
And, I do like going to Toby’s Tavern in the “off season” to have Penn Cove Mussels for dinner.

What is your favorite Coupeville memory?
When my youngest niece was about 4 years old (she is now in her 20’s), we would go to Ebey’s Landing Beach and look for agates. She learned to hold them up to the sun to see if they were agates or “ag-nots!”
Why do you love being on the Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools?
The people! We have board members who have deep roots in our community. And we have board members who represent newer residents and parents. How lucky we are to have this support and involvement for our schools. Coupeville should be proud!
