What is SOCK?
Summer Opportunities for Coupeville Kids is a program that the one and only Arianna Bumgarner (for more on this amazing person, read here), the school district Social Work Coordinator, developed and evolved over the last 4 years. Arianna has coordinated summer camps both on campus and off and arranged for access (paying fees and tuition as well as arrangements for transportation) throughout the summer for kids who want to participate but would not be able to without this program. In the last 3 years, at least 40 kids have been supported to participate in these programs. This year, three amazing partnerships are planned.
AND that is not all... As the summer winds down, Arianna coordinates Back to School Supplies for those who need help as well! Over 150 students annually are provided supplies like pens, paper, and calculators so that students hit the ground running from Day 1. |
What is the Goal?
We are looking to raise $5000 in support of all these programs.
The $5000 is to support tuition for the camps (range from $100 - $300 per student) as well as the Back to School Supplies which typically exceeds $2000.

When is the fundraising happening?
These programs start in July so we want to be efficient and fundraise the month of June
Tell me more about the Summer Programs
There are three amazing partnerships planned on Coupeville campus this summer, all supported by Coupeville Staff. We want to load these programs up with as many students as who want to go and your support makes this possible!
Summer Steam Camp with Mrs. Hiroyasu! A beloved Coupeville teacher is bringing STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) to our kiddos in a fun way. Looking at this flyer, I want to go too! |
WILASC (Whidbey Island Language, Arts, and STEM Center) is an amazing non-profit whose mission is to giving children a fun and engaging learning environment where they can explore their interests and develop new skills in languages, STEM and the arts. Though diverse in nature, the programs are guided by the same criteria: to nurture students’ intellectual curiosity, develop their critical thinking skills and a global mindset, and inspire their lifelong love of learning.

Island Strings is partnering up with Coupeville Schools to develop a summer music lessons on campus! Island Strings is another awesome local nonprofit, led by Cynthia Albers (violinist) with the dual objectives of honoring the Island Strings legacy and expanding its reach. Today, Island Strings joins with other organizations to address the lack of strings instruction in school programs, and faces the important task of introducing violin-family instruments to Whidbey students, assisting families in acquiring instruments, and promoting and fostering string ensembles led by Whidbey Island instructors.
