Good evening players of the Spring Smash Pickleball Round Robin,
I hope you all had a wonderful Saturday and a gorgeous Sunday Thank you As I shared, all the money raised directly supports Coupeville schools - going towards enrichment grants, scholarships, and the Promise Fund. We are still totaling up the cash box - but we exceeded the total of $4,500 and that is through your "day of" generosity with the raffle, donations, and smashburgers. It absolutely matters, we love to say yes to teachers and administrators have bring unique ideas to life that engage students. Safety: WE DID IT! I know there was an ankle sprain and a muscle pull needing some ice, but we stayed out of the hospital and I saw a lot of smiles. The Registrants: At least 4 of you caused me a little stress by signing up the last Tuesday. But I will give you all props for showing up on time and you were pros at the format, being on your court when the time was right. You are getting really good a this. The Round Robin: I saw a lot of great sportsmanship, super shots, plenty of dinks and a lot of smiles. When all the dust settled the bracket champions where: The Dinksters (Marcus and Tiana Hughes) Better Half and the Other Half (Cole and Greg White). Unforced Errors (Tom Jones and Craig Riggs) The Kitchen Nightmares (Yelsi Canales and Ed Roffey) The semifinals went according to their seeding as Unforced Errors and Kitchen Nightmares showed their skills. Then in the finals, the dynamic duo with power in those chef's hat outlasted Unforced Errors for the win. Great job to all! And we finished right about 3 pm so we really accelerated at the end! Superlatives: Best coordinated costume: Dinkasaurs (See Picture) Kennedy Garrison and Hailee Hagins Best Team Name: Smashed Potatoes (Christiana Rosales and Johnny Lopez) Lick Your Wound (got beat up all day, but with great sweetness) - In a Pickle, Dinkasaurs, Power Players, and Cornichons (which I found out means Pickle in French!) Event Organizer Feels Awful Award: Day Dinkers (the OGs) - Kay Skaggs and Alicia Turner whom I had to stop their match when they were behind but they were undefeated until then. Overall People's Choice: Kay Skaggs DINO paddles - Kerosene Cucumbers (Jade and Sam Peabody) - They had to borrow paddles for this event! Shout Out to Heidi Kaempfer and the Sloth Ham Clan - there were FOUR teams from up north through her influence and we really appreciate you making the trip down here to play. Raffles: I can't remember who won the Pickleball quilt - he wasn't there but a friend took it to him (hopefully) Heidi Kaempfer won the incredible flower bouquet from Coupeville Florist Kennedy Garrison won the amazing ONIX Paddle. She will for sure be in the highest bracket next year with that kind of power and control. Volunteers: Thank you to my cohorts - the busy bodies who serve as THE hardest working board members for the Coupeville Schools Foundation. By my count we had 7 of our board members accompanied by their children, grandchildren and friends who made the event successful. They are Chic Merwine, Bill Evans, Dannette Beckley, Christie Sears, Fran McCarthy, Jerry Kroon, and Vickie Chambers We put the tape down, we grilled the burgers, we took out the trash. It is so fun to serve on this Board. Sponsors: Our community businesses are so generous and supportive for a town this small; it is like a Hallmark movie every day. The best way to thank them is to A) shop at their businesses and B) say something! Everyone likes to hear words of affirmation; it is a great love language! HERE THEY ARE, SHOW THEM LOVE! |
