Where the Wolves Are Now

Derek Franzen ('73) and Leslie ('74). Derek and Leslie continue to team up on their business partnership running the family business, Central Electric of Coupeville, Inc. for over 27 years.  Leslie is also Branch Manager of the Coupeville Library, which, after a successful community bond measure this summer, will be doubling in size in 2010.  Both Leslie and Derek found that growing up in a small community had huge advantages with support from not only their families, but the community as a whole.  Both have given back to a community they love through Coupeville Lions Club, Central Whidbey Youth Coalition, Friends of the Coupeville Library, coaching/school activities and more.  We are nurturing the "giving back to your community" spirit in our children, Kelsi (CHS Class of 2005) and Garrett (CHS Class 2010).  Both have given countless hours to the community through service projects with Honor Society, Friends of the Coupeville Library, Lions Club Swim program and more.  This was instilled in us during our years at CHS with teachers that were wonderful mentors - many thanks go to Carol & Darrell Dyer, Linda & Jim Hosek, Larry Engel, Bob Barker, Frank Steele and Rosy Walters.  The care they took with their students certainly made a difference in our lives.

Jim Menzies - Principal: It was a great privilege being the CHS principal for 8 years (1976-84).  The students and faculty at CHS were incredible.  I'd like to hear from some of our graduates to see what is happening in their lives.

Lynne and my three children - Corrina, Bill, and Leann - are all in good health and still active.  I completed my 32-year career in education in 1998 and have worked as a field marketing executive for PEMCO Insurance since that time.

This on-line newspaper is a great way to communicate with acquaintances.  Thanks to those who are working to make the rest of us somewhat nostalgic.

Jerry Helm ('98):

After graduating in 1998 form Coupeville High School, I attended ITT Technical Institute where I earned my AA in Computer drafting and design. Soon after graduation I was hired by the Island County Engineering Department where I designed many local road improvement projects. In 2005 I was hired as a full time Firefighter with Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue where I am now Senior Firefighter and Union President. In the summer of 2002 I met my wife Tiffany who was a 1998 graduate of South Whidbey High School, a cheerleader for the Seattle Seahawks, and an Emergency Medical Technician for Whidbey General Hospital, we were married in 2005. We currently live in Coupeville and are enjoying life in our brand new house we purchased in July of 2006.

Christine Pocock:

After graduating from Northwest University in 2006 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and a K-8 teaching certificate, I worked as a substitute teacher for Lake Washington and Bellevue school districts before taking a job as a nanny.  I married Michael Adam July 8, 2007 at St. Spiridon Orthodox Church and held a reception at Freeland Hall.  We are currently looking for a location to settle down and start a family.
