Phyllis Sherman ('50) I was one of 13 graduates in 1950 and our annual was called The Fang - Al has never let me forget it was HIS class who thought up the name Leloo Cly which is so clever and original! The Fang was dedicated to Mrs. Elva Starks, our wonderful and untiring home ec teacher who cooked turkey dinners with the help of the students to earn money for stoves and refrigerators for our 'new' high school building. She was also the hot lunch cook and that was all from scratch those days! Students could earn their lunch by working and I remember peeling a few potatoes. Al Sherman ('51) There were 15 in the class of '51. We had a 50 year reunion in 2001 and 10 of us got together again. Mr. McElvain was the superintendent of schools and he was also the student council advisor and the tennis coach..He also liked to play golf. I remember one night the tennis team played a match in Sultan and on the way home we stopped and played golf until it was so dark we couldn't see the ball! |

Carolyn Hancock Brazas ('64) After high school, I attended school in Seattle with the thought of begoming a high schoool math teacher. My first job, to earn money for college, was in a law office and I was hooked from the beginning. I've worked as a paralegal for 40 years, and have been with my current employer, Jacob Cohen, in Oak Harbor, for 27 years. We live at Dewey Beach, near Anacortes, my husband Deane's home town. We own Fidalgo Yacht Sales at Cap Sante Marina and it's fun dealing with boats - especially in this part of the world. Our daughter Jen is a senior manager in HR Finance at Microsoft. We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in March. Life is good! We truly live in God's country. I miss the old school building as I drive by, but also realize it was time. And I have a brick from the old place on my bookcase. I am looking forward to the 1963 class reunion picnic this summer. It will be great to see a lot of old friends. |

| John ('63) and Cherry ('64) Sinema We have both retired from Island County. Cherry worked in the Auditor's office for 37 years and John worked in the Engineer's office for a couple months short of 35 years. We have lived in Anacortes, Washington for 17 years. We have boated in theSan Juan Islands for quite a few years and have traveled to various locations (mostly Hawaii). We most recently cruised to the Mexican Riviera. It was our first experience on a cruise ship and loved it. People ask us what do you do when you're retired and we say retirement means you have more time to spend with friends and family. The calendar fills up pretty quickly. | ![]() |

Bill Riley & Althea Dean Riley (CHS '73) Bill graduated from Central and Althea graduated from Western in 1977. We were married on Whidbey in 1980 and have lived in Puyallup ever since. Bill became a Realtor in 1978 and we now own a building/developing firm, Bill Riley Communities. We have one wonderful daughter, Merritt (SPU Grad-2008), love working and traveling to sunny locals. Sports at CHS, as a spectator or participant, top our very best memories. Growing up in a small caring community is something Althea and Bill still treasure today.

Eric Tingstad ('73) The eldest of 3 brothers, growing up in Coupeville, Eric's interest in music was influenced by Led Zeppelin, King Crimson and time spent pounding out rock and roll in the '70's. He began his recording career in 1981 with the release of "On the Links" and developed a warm, personal classical guitar style that became known as "Northwest Impressionism." In 1985, Eric joined Nancy Rumbel with their debut album, "The Gift." Having won many awards for their music, Tingstad and Rumbel played Carnegie Hall in 2000 and received a Grammy award for their album "Acoustic Garden" in 2003. They were nominated for another Grammy in 2007 for "Southwest." Eric also received the Coyote Award for Arts Northwest in 2006 for his leadership, visibility, and contributions to the arena of live performance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Chris Olson ('00) After my Graduation in 2000, I moved to San Diego where I was somehow able to get my BA from the University of California San Diego. After those 4 years, I decided that I wanted to head in a little bit of a different direction and started on my path towards becoming an EMT. After a wonderful five years in San Diego, I moved back to Washington where I worked on an ambulance, trying to get my foot in the door for the Fire service. In 2007 I was hired with the Lynnwood Fire Department where I am currently working as a Firefighter/EMT. I am extremely happy and honored to work in a profession that allows me the opportunity to help others in their time of need as well as serve as a community representative for fire and life safety. |

| Amy Foss ('03) I graduated with the class of ’03. My favorite teacher honestly had to be my dad; Dave Foss; he’s just so laid back, and let all of his art students express themselves without judging them. Plus he always had great projects that were fun to do! After high school I moved to Seattle and got my degree in Fashion Merchandising at the Art Institute of Seattle. After completing AIS I started working for Nordstrom at Northgate in the Brass Plum department. I have been a Nordstrom Pacesetter for 3 years and have also received All Star recognition. I absolutely love working for Nordstrom and becoming part of the “Nordy culture.” I enjoy helping customers solve their fashion dilemmas, and helping them grow into their own personal style. I’m not sure what I will be doing in the next few years, Nordstrom has many different career paths that I can pursue, but at the moment I am loving where I’m at with my life! I often think of my high school years and my friends, and invite everyone to come see me at Nordstrom. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
