Students will sail around Penn Cove in the MV Cutty Sark under the command of Captain John Stone. Students rotate through a set of working stations throughout the boat that include working the sails and manning the helm. This is a culminating activity for the Skills for Adolescence course and provides students an authentic learning experience. Students also apply various life skills they have been studying such as teamwork, making healthy choices, cooperation, effective listening and overcoming challenges. This direct experience in the outdoors is a route towards their learning to care about and protect our natural environment. Students have to pay $10 toward this trip. If you would like to help with this expense, email Mr. Gabelein or click the Donate link. |
